  13. no work on a Powerbook 15′ (Powerbook 5,6) :( :( :(

  14. I find it best to hold your screen with one hand while you swing it around. If only the Mac didn’t go to sleep when you shut the lid…

  15. This new build fixes the SMS Error on my PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz. But I’ve noticed that the keyboard backlight effect now sometimes causes my keyboard backlight to “lock up” in the off position when I quit the application.

  16. That is wicked!

  17. i cant believe it, its awsome

  18. I think my screen will snap off if i do this much more..

  19. rarely have I seen an app that was as brilliant or indeed idiotic as this! It’s awesome, keep up the good work.

  20. Does anyone know of a way to stop a macbook sleeping when the screen is closed!! would be handy.. keep shutting it when ive got music playing oh and especially for lightsabre fightin!!

  21. Thank you so much!

  22. @chris: plug in the power supply and an external mouse. This should wake up your closed macbook. I am not sure if you also need to connect an external display.

Reboot doesn’t work either. Any ideas?

  27. [...] My friend Melody pointed out a fun new use for the Mac sudden motion sensors (the ones that stop your HD from spinning if you drop your laptop). 30. Preved! Nice resourse! Kagdila? I’m medved

  31. When will this be compatible with the MacBook Pro?

  32. It has always been compatible with the MacBook Pro. In fact, that’s what I wrote the application on. =)

  33. [...] For the gimmicky fun side of things, I’ve been playing with MacSaber and ShadowBook with VirtueDesktops. The former is a ton of fun, and gets all sorts of oohs and ahhs from friends and coworkers. The latter is a different story. I originally tried out the new ALS functionality of VirtueDesktops alone, but it was very unstable, and rotated desktops for seemingly no reason at all. Then, I used it with ShadowBook, and it worked, but I had to check a checkbox on every launch to enable to desktop switching functionality. It was also another app to run, and gave varying results in various light conditions. In the end, I stopped using VirtueDesktops altogether, as the desktop model doesn’t seem to fit with the Mac model of application switching. Besides, with Exposé, all it takes is a hit of F11 to get to the desktop. It will be interesting to see how Spaces turns out in 10.5. [...]

  40. Ahh…my new MacBook Pro has a purpose…now I can swing it at my jealous friends just to remind them I now have a MBP. Thanks very much for the superb app! :-)

    Keep on sabering!

  44. I hadn’t heard about the update for the backlight, so when I tried it tonight on my 1 day old MBP, imagine my delight in seeing the keyboard flash. The best part is, I really don’t have to move it very much to get a huge result. Massive software, really.

    Alan Turing would be proud?

  45. MacSaber is great fun ! I would love to see you interface MacSaber with DarwiinRemote (the Wiimote has motion sensors and force feedback). Imagine the Jedi action with a Wiimote !

  46. I have no idea what that was all about?

  47. lmfao. Fantastic. I love this.

  48. If you want to use your mac with the lid closed try an app called SleepLess. It’s great if you’re on a flight and want to just listen to music, or ….oh I don’t know…if you’re swinging you laptop around and don’t want the screen to fly off.

Just make sure to use is small doses.

You might end up with a dead disk. Wrong! Disco is clever enough to realise when the laptop is moving too much to potentially interfere with the burning process, and shakes the window to warn you of this. Now that’s the sudden motion sensor being used for something sensible instead of making light saber noises! [...]

  103. @Pavel,

Yes, MacSaber is open source and several projects have already adapted it! However, I don’t think anyone has done a Windows version yet, so I would love to see what you can do with it:
